Einstein House in Bern, Switzerland!

Be it the internet, our cell phones, TV, digital cameras or MRI body scanners and many such revolutionary things, we all owe it to Albert Einstein - the most influential scientist of the 20th century. He spent a substantial amount of his life in Switzerland. He studied, worked and met his first wife while living in Switzerland.



Back in 2011, I visited Einstein House in Bern and tried to get a glimpse of this maestro's life. From 1903 to 1905, Einstein lived with his family on the second floor of Kramgasse No.49 - the house which is shown in the picture at the left.

 In 1902 Einstein started working as a "technical expert third class" at the patent office in Bern. In 1903 he rented this house in autumn after marrying Mileva Maric. While living here, Einstein developed the special theory of relativity in 1905. Bern became the starting point of Einstein's unique academic career.








In the picture at the right, I am standing on the old original spiral staircase to the second floor of the Einstein House. Einstein had walked on this staircase as well!

I often feel as though the staircase is old, but it has paved the way for future. This old staircase has seen so many new dawns and will see for many years to come.






It is interesting to note the entrance (which has been renovated). It welcomes the visitors with an illustration of the Milky way.












The living conditions of Einstein and his wife Mileva with their son Hans Albert are shown more accurately in the apartment on the second floor with furniture from that time. I must thank my husband, who is an ardent follower of Einstein for this overwhelming experience.
